Faces From Field To Fashion

I had the privilege of serving as the Sound Mixer and Location Sound Recordist for a series of commercials titled “Faces From Field to Fashion,” which offered a captivating behind-the-scenes journey into the heart of the Global Organic Textile Standard, showcasing the people, processes, and positive impact of G.O.T.S.-certified products.

The project provided a compelling insight into the lives of individuals from one of the G.O.T.S.-certified facilities, Empresa Têxtil De Peugas, a Portuguese company producing 2.5 million socks annually, deeply committed to community, care, and environmental consciousness. Through heartfelt video portraits, they shared their unscripted and candid experiences, while we emphasized the company’s profound environmental concerns and the significance of their G.O.T.S. certification.

Preparation and planning

In pre-production, I closely collaborated with the director and production team to grasp the project’s vision and narrative. Location scouts helped identify sound challenges and plan equipment setup, including shotgun microphones, wireless lavalier microphones, a portable recorder, wind protection, and backup gear for technical contingencies.

Teamwork

Handling Portuguese participants with an English-speaking German crew posed an extra challenge, requiring accurate translations while preserving authenticity. I guided the interviewees to ensure a comfortable on-camera presence, resulting in powerful video portraits that effectively conveyed G.O.T.S.’s commitment to sustainability and community values.

Challanges

The dynamic nature of moving between different shooting locations necessitated constant adaptability in audio setup and swift adjustments to maintain consistent sound quality. Diverse locations, such as factories and outdoor settings, posed acoustic challenges that required careful consideration and the use of specialized techniques.
